A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Fred Mauck and Chaplain Melanie Lewis. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park with military honors.
Mr. Hudson was born April 1, 1932, in Newton, New Jersey, son of the late Basil Carroll Hudson, Sr. and Ruth Willis Hudson. He was a retired carpenter in building construction and a member of the Carpenters Union. His construction abilities provided construction projects with Dulles Airport, the French Embassy, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, and many others.He also enjoyed carving horses and making furniture as a hobby.
Mr. Hudson served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War while stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in California.
He was owner and past-president of Royal Haven Rest Home, Inc., Royal Oak Lanes, and Royal Ambulance Service. He was an avid collector of antique cars. He was a member of Meadow Mills Church of the Brethren in Middletown.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years Alice Roberta Hudson; three children Deborah Hudson Langfitt of Front Royal and her husband David Vernon Langfitt, Basil Carroll Hudson, III of Stephenson and his wife Tana Manuel Hudson, and Melissa Hudson Grove of Front Royal and her husband Ernest Charles Grove; a brother James Hudson of West Virginia; a sister Barbara Hudson Gibbs of Mississippi; six grandchildren Virginia Nicole Langfitt, Allison Carroll Spargo, Alexandra Elisabeth Madagan, Charles Basil Grove, Ryan Mackenzie Hudson, and Korinne Elyse Grove; and six great-grandchildren Peyton Nicole Zauber, Hudson Edward Zauber, Gabrielle Elisabeth Madagan, Reece Mackenzie Madagan, Alvin Joseph Spargo, and Davis James Spargo.
He was preceded in death by a brother William Hudson and two sisters Elnora Fletcher and Katherine Atkins Woodward.
Pallbearers will be Mike Legg, C.J. Czolba, Steve Foster, Michael Williams, Jeremy Greenbacker, and David Smoke.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Athey, Nelson Longerbeam, Joe McDaniel, Keith Garbee, Robert McFarland, Earl Menefee, Nelson May, and Lynnwood Hall.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
