A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal conducted by Samuel Campbell.
Mrs. Rutherford was born August 11, 1923, in Palestine, West Virginia, daughter of the late Rev. E. J. Roberts and Vera Gwendolyn Thorne Roberts. She was married to the late Arthur Wilson Boyd and Franklyn Rutherford
Surviving are her daughter Belita B. Ford of Front Royal and her husband Harold; her sisters Carolyn Jeannine Mauck of Front Royal and her late husband Robert “Bobby” R. Mauck, Cecelia Marguerite Rutherford of Berryville and her husband Walter “Pete”, Margery Claire Shutts of Parkersburg, West Virginia and her late husband Kenneth Shutts; a grandchild Stephanie Darr of Winchester and her husband James “Junior” Darr; three great-grandchildren Jessica Mautone, Meghan Mautone, and Allyson Mautone; a great-great-granddaughter Rhylen Beckwith; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her beloved cats Josephine, Wednesday, and especially Simon.
Mrs. Rutherford was preceded in death by a brother J. E. “Junior” Roberts and his wife Louise Roberts.
After moving from Palestine, she worked for American Viscose, J. J. Newberry’s, and was manager of the Men’s Department of K-Mart for 10 years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and loved to watch TV. She collected pitchers as well as Fenton Glassware of West Virginia. She loved her family so much and always had a great wonderful story to tell.
There will be a private visitation at Maddox Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please join the family at their home at 333 Hatcher Drive, Front Royal, immediately following the service to celebrate Gwen’s life.
