Gerlene Shirley Atkins

Gerlene Shirley Atkins, 80, of Linden, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Lynn Care Center.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 2 PM at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal with Rev. Terry Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow at the Atkins Family Cemetery in Linden.

Mrs. Atkins was born on June 12, 1938 in Madison, Virginia to the late Edward and Virginia Taylor Lamb. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ellis “Peewee” Atkins. She retired from Warren Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her four children, Darlene Elliott (Denny), Robert Atkins (Brenda), Wendy Fletcher (Brad) and Paul Atkins (Kim); three brothers, Edward “Bo” Lamb, Randy Lamb and Carrol “Bubby” Lamb; two sisters, Laura “Tilly” Williams and Dorothy Williams; seven Grandchildren, Amy Harris (Calvin), Jessica Furlong (Byron), Jennifer Atkins (Joey), Stephanie Kreitzer (Chad), Ashley Wood (Daniel), Chris Atkins (Cassie) and Ryan Atkins and thirteen great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Calvin Harris, Byron Furlong, Joey Jock, Chad Kreitzer, Daniel Wood, Chris Atkins and Ryan Atkins.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lynn Care Center for their wonderful care of Mrs. Atkins during her stay.

    I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Atkins passing. I had the opportunity to meet her while my mom was at Lynn Care. Her and my mom became friends my mom thought a lot of her.
    You all are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time I know what you are feeling. RIP sweet lady

    Amy, I am so sorry to hear of your grandmothers passing. I know the pain of losing a grandparent. Please know I am thinking of you and the rest of the family during this time.

    She was a favorite of mine! Always will remember the smell of her lotion when I would go in to give her meds! Will miss her! She was a great lady !
