James (“Jim”) Joseph McDonnell, 82, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal, Virginia.
Born on April 21, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of late John Patrick and Matilda McDonnell. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother John, sister Dorothy, wife Constance and daughter Lynn.
Jim is survived by sons Mark and Christopher, daughter Julie and his grandchildren. Jim is also survived by nephew and nieces, John, Lynda, Janet, Susan, and Mary McDonnell, Carolyn Sue Mallin, and sister-in-law, Betty McDonnell.
Jim graduated from Bishop Hogan High School, Class of 1953 in Kansas City, Missouri. Following his graduation from high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country aboard the USS Philippine Sea CVA-47. Jim retired from IBM Corporation after 33 years of service.
Jim was an active member in the communities where he lived in Manassas and Front Royal, including the American Legion Post 53, Elks Lodge 2382 and Front Royal Moose Lodge 829 where he served as governor for three years. He also supported several Veteran’s charities and enjoyed sharing his love of classic Ford Mustangs.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at the Front Royal Moose Lodge, 1340 John Marshall Hwy, Front Royal, VA 22630 on January 12, 2019, 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
