Jerry Lee Mathews, 82, of Browntown, Virginia passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia with Pastor James Ritch and Pastor Randyl Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Mathews was born on January 30, 1936 in Browntown to the late Kenneth and Mildred Clem Mathews. He enlisted in the US Army after graduating from the Warren County High School class of 1954 and served 18 months in Berlin, Germany. He retired from Southern States after 32 years of service and farmed all of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Louise W. Mathews, whom he wed on March 8, 1958. He is also survived by his son, Rick Mathews and his wife, Daris and his grandson, Ken Mathews and his wife, Rachel all of Browntown.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 11, 2018 from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Colin Clem, Tim Clem, Dave Jenkins, Gary Kenney, Ronnie Kenney and Mike Reardon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Orivel Baker, Ott Baker, Terry Berry, Giles Partlowe, Ray Partlowe and Sam Updike.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, Kathy Dempsey and Mary Henry.
