Marcelle Williams McNeill

Marcelle Williams McNeill, 87, of Front Royal, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Warren Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 7 at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church with The Rev. Jane Piver and The Rev. Deborah Rutter officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. McNeill was born on July 30, 1931, in Front Royal. She was the daughter of the late Albert Stanley Williams and Iva Mae Ritenour Williams. Mrs. McNeill was a graduate of Warren County High School Class of 1949. She graduated in 1953 from Winchester Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating from nursing school she worked professionally in Virginia and California. She then stayed home to raise her family, which was her greatest joy. She returned to nursing in 1977 as a surgical nurse at Warren Memorial Hospital for seventeen years. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she served faithfully as a member of the vestry, played with the bell choir, served on the Alter Guild and helped with the Women of the Church in many activities and functions. Mrs. McNeill was very involved in the community throughout her life as a member of the Valley Garden Club, a volunteer for the Women’s Shelter, the Second Chance Thrift Shop, Ladies Auxiliary of Warren Memorial Hospital, the Red Stocking Follies, and the Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center. She served on the board of the Domestic Violence Council of Warren County. In her free time she enjoyed being a member of a bridge club.

Marcelle lived a life of quiet grace and service to others.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Dr. Donald H. McNeill; one son: Bruce McNeill and wife Patty of Vienna; two daughters: Nancy Doud and husband Bret, of Rockford, Michigan, and Linda Mills and husband Allen of Moseley; two brothers Maynard Williams and Melvin Williams both of Front Royal; three sisters: Estelle Sibert and Rosa Burnette, both of Front Royal, and Maybelle Gilkey of Chester Gap; and five adored grandchildren: Rachel and Connor Doud, Magda and Roksana McNeill, and Spencer Mills.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Richard Walker McNeill, and a granddaughter Christina Elizabeth Mills.

Pallbearers will be Connor Doud, Dr. Bret Doud, Allen Mills, Spencer Mills, Dr. Charles “Chuck” Huber and Dr. Thomas E. Patteson.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Valley Garden Club.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 6 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Calvary Episcopal Church, 11 W. Second Street, Front Royal, VA, or St. Luke’s Community Clinic, 316 North Royal Avenue, Front Royal, VA.

    Marcella was one of my favorite people. She and Don were very much loved by all. We will miss her dearly.libby
