Roberta Close Grove

Roberta Close Grove, 74, of Front Royal, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018, in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by The Right Rev. Dr. Vince McLaughlin. Interment will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens at Waterlick.

Roberta was born on October 14, 1943, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Ernest Close and Eileen Louise Eisenhower Close.

She was married to the late Charles Melton Grove, Jr., her high school sweetheart. Charles and Roberta enjoyed many numerous camping trips around the United States with their family and friends.

Roberta was a 1962 graduate of Warren County High School, never missed one class reunion and was instrumental in helping to organize every class reunion. She drove a Warren County School bus for twenty-five years. She was a member of the Rockland Community Church for over 60 years where she sang with the choir and helped with many Bible Schools. Roberta was a member and leader of the Rockland 4-H club for many years, a member of the Cedarville Ruritan Club, where she was inducted as the first woman president. She was a charter member of the North Warren Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department where she was well known for her Saturday breakfast and other catered events. She was a charter member of the Front Royal Community Band. She was a member of the Rockland Singers. Roberta along with her family won the Virginia State Apple Butter Contest two years and never finished outside of the top three due to her talented seasoning skills. It has been said that before her apple butter reached the jars, people would grab it up!

Surviving are two sons Ernie Grove and wife Missy of Front Royal and Brian Grove and wife Robin of Christiansburg; one sister Connie Painter and husband Lloyd of Front Royal; one sister-in-law Shirley Singhas of Front Royal; three grandchildren Chase Grove and wife Chloe of Stephens City, Korinne Zaino and husband John of Front Royal and Takoda Grove of Christiansburg; and one great-grandson J.J. Zaino. She also has several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Chase Grove, Takoda Grove, John Zaino, Steve Painter, Steve Bowman and John Barrett
Honorary pallbearers will be Reggie Fritts, Billy Royston, Tommy Fritts, Wayne Sealock, the Cedarville Ruritan Club, and the North Warren Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 21 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
