SCPO James Lewis Wilson, (US Navy, Ret.)

SCPO James Lewis Wilson, (US Navy, Ret.), 82. of Front Royal, VA, died on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at his home.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 13, at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal, VA with military honors conducted by the US Navy and Winchester VFW Post 2123.

Mr. Wilson was born October 12, 1934 in Besoco, WV, son of the late Lewis Herman Wilson and Beatrice Virginia Shrewsbury Wilson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1952-1972 and retired as a Communications Technician, Technical Branch, Senior Chief (CTTCS). Duty Stations included NAVCOMSTA Guam, NAVCOMSTA Cheltenham, MD, NAVCOMSTA Adak, AL, NAVSECGRUACTY Bremerhaven, Germany, USS North Hampton, NAVSECGRUACTY Ft. Meade, MD, USNAVRADSTA Skaggs Island, CA, NAVSECGRUDET Pt. Mugu, CA, USNAVRADSTA Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, USNAVRADSTA Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico, and NAVCOMCOMMHQ NAVSECSTA Washington, D.C. After active duty, Jim spent ten years in the Naval Reserve. After naval retirement Jim purchased Little Round Top Farm in Gettysburg, PA and opened an antique shop. There he enjoyed the farming life and eventually sold the farm in 1984. Jim began another distinguished career in the private sector working for several defense contractors in the D.C. area as an electronics engineer and project manager for various surface warfare projects. He also worked as a government employee, first with the U.S. Navy as head electronics engineer for surface warfare systems and finally, with the U.S. Army and Vint Hill Farms Station in Warrenton, VA working on tank and helicopter projects. After retiring again in 1997, Jim and his brother David started a small business for ten years where they manufactured components for alarm/alert systems for hospital equipment. He enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing and playing golf. He was a member of Front Royal Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 829, where he founded and became Scout Master of Boy Scouts of America Troop 829 and served in that position until 2014. He was also a member of Fleet Reserve Association. He was an avid ham radio operator and was a member of ARRL.

Surviving are his wife Natashya A. Wilson; children James Lloyd Wilson and wife Janette, John Thomas Wilson and wife Carol, Charles Edward Wilson and wife Elaine, Debra Ruth Sullivan and husband Daniel, Jeff Lee Wilson, Tressa Marie Helms, Steven Lewis Wilson, Elise Nicole Nicholson and husband Kenneth, and Larrisa Anya Wilson; one sister Joanna Beam and husband Roger; sister-in-law Carole Wilson; grandchildren Vanessa Cobb and husband Justin, Leslie Staggs and husband Josh, Tracy Wilson, James S. Wilson, Richard Wilson and wife Megan, Keri Wilson, Leeanne Wilson, Dane Wilson and wife Brittany, Daryl Wilson, Cole Wilson, Daniel Sullivan and wife Jen, Jessica Sullivan, Christopher Poff, Faith Helms and Chase Helms; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
