Born on December 5, 1932 in Frederick County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Marguerite Willey Murphy and Lee Wilson Murphy.

Wayne loved to go dancing with his loving companion, Frances Woodward. He enjoyed many evenings conversing with his friends at the Moose Lodge. Spending time in his garden was his favorite pastime. He loved to work the garden and took pride in the planting and growing of fruits and vegetables. Many a day you would find him there soaking in its peacefulness while smoking a cigar.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Terry Murphy (Beth), Shari Blake (Jeff) and Gary Murphy (Barbara); grandsons, Curtis Blake, David Blake (Crystal) and Benjamin Murphy; six great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; two sisters Beatrice Oakes and Charlotte Murphy; brother, Roy Murphy; two sisters-in-law, Nadene Murphy and Diane Murphy; half-sister, Karen Murphy all of Front Royal and numerous nieces and nephews.
