Bill McKiernan passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital after a short but intense illness.
Bill was born January 31, 1954 in Washington, DC. He was the son of the late William J. McKiernan, Jr. and Margaret M. McKiernan of Arlington, VA.
Bill was a proud veteran of the USAF, a member of IBEW electrical workers union, and a proud 29 year successful member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Bill loved most his family and his many, many friends. He enjoyed riding his bike along Skyline Drive and Fodderstack Road. He loved music from the 60s and 70s and was the proud owner of a vintage record collection of that era. Bill was passionate about animal rescue and helping his many friends in small ways.
Bill is survived by his sister Kathleen Brugh (Frank), nephews Shannon Brugh (Laura), Christopher Brugh, and Ginny Silverthorn (Adam) as well as a great-nephew Summit Brugh, many close cousins, and dear friends, and his devoted kitty companion, Sophie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at a later date at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Front Royal, VA followed by a celebration of his life. Interment will be private at Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted in his memory at the Humane Society of Warren County, 1245 Progress Drive, Front Royal, VA 22630, or to an animal shelter or rescue of your choice.
Bill specialized in small random acts of kindness. Please do a little something for someone in need.
