Following his service in Korea. Ashby was assigned, as a new Virginia State Trooper, to Greene County where he and Pearl became part of the community. My dad, W. D. “Hooks” Deane, was sheriff. Ashby and my Dad worked, fished and hunted together during his assignment in Greene. Ashby and Pearl and their young sons became close friends of the Deane family. Ashby and my Dad were role models of law enforcement officers who focused on “treating others like you would expect to be treated”.
My condolences to Richard and JW and family.
Rest in Peace Ashby, my friend.
