Kenneth Scott “Ken” Reuwer, 61, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024 while on the Thompson Hollow Trailhead.
Ken was born on July 29, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Milton and Mary Kathleen Murray Reuwer. He married Michelle Goldbeck in 1983, and together they have six children. Ken was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lucy Reuwer.
Ken studied at St. Fidelis High School with the Capuchin friars. His professional career spanned across continents in service of our country as a Special Agent for the Defense Investigative Service, Central Intelligence Agency, and Naval Criminal Investigative Service, culminating in his retirement as NCIS Deputy Assistant Director. Over that time he also led the investigation of the attack on the USS Cole, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and assisted a member of the House of Representatives as a defense advisor.
In his retirement, Ken served as an active chair on Chelsea Academy’s Board of Directors. While “retired,” he worked as an investigative research contractor, security consultant, handyman, event coordinator and most importantly, a husband and father. When not at his kids’ school and sporting events, he could often be found on a golf course or a baseball diamond, enjoying some of his favorite pastimes.
Ken is survived by his wife of 41 years, Michelle Reuwer; his five sons: Father Daniel Reuwer, Michael Reuwer, Patrick Reuwer (Rachel), Stephen Reuwer and Thomas “Brooks” Reuwer; daughter, Christina Reuwer; his six brothers: Mike Reuwer, John Reuwer, David Reuwer, Chris Reuwer, Steven Reuwer and Tom Reuwer; his two sisters: Trisha Elkins and Kathy Guess; his two grandchildren: Mackenzie Reuwer and Benedict Reuwer, and so many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends for a viewing on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 120 West Main Street, Front Royal, VA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 130 Keating Drive, Winchester, VA 22601 with Father Daniel Reuwer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Cemetery, 12762 Lee Highway, Washington, VA 22747.

Grief is the last act of love we give to those we love, but we do not grieve like the rest of mankind, without hope.
We will hear the loud trumpet call of God, and the dead will rise again.
Dad is at home with the Lord. He will be greatly missed. Peace and comfort to you and your family as you grieve your loss. God bless you all, in Jesus’
Name I pray. 🙏🏽💖🧎🏽♀️📿

I had the pleasure of working with or for Ken numerous times, during my tenure with the NCIS. The most memorable was during our tour in IRAQ . Ken was a great leader and was a person I held in high esteem. My sincere condolences to his family during this trying time.
So Sorry for your loss . Fr.Dan , your dad left this world way too soon.
We are keeping all of your family in our prayers ,may you all bring peace and comfort to each other .
You now have your own special angel in Heaven ,He must have been so proud of you.
Thank you for all that you do For All Saints Church in Manassas .
We are heartbroken at the loss of Ken, and our prayers are with you. We remember with fondness meeting you in Naples, Italy while working for NCIS. Then again our paths crossed in Chesapeake, Virginia, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. You were an inspiration to our Faith, and know that you are holding fast to Her now. May God and His Blessed Mother comfort you in this moment of need.
Our paths crossed briefly during his time in the UK. A wonderful and generous man – with a deep sense of right and wrong and a keen interest in history. Back in the USA, the two of us spent a very memorable day out at the Gettysburg battlefield some years ago (where Ken even introduced me to Grits at a local restaurant). His knowledge of the battlefield and in particular the significance of the area near The Angle stone wall is etched in my mind for its poignancy and the huge losses that occurred there. Ken helped bring that into vivid focus for me. I loved his kindness but I really admired his integrity and can’t help feeling we’re all a little poorer for his loss.
Albeit for such a short time, it was a treat to have known him. Rest in peace Ken. I shall keep you and all the family in my prayers.
Fear not, for I have redeemed you.
I have called you by name.
You are mine.
(Isaiah 43)
My deep condolences to Ken’s family and friends. I treasure the great opportunity and privilege to have worked with Ken and see up close his awesome special agent and leadership skills. What an incredible career and service to his country, and for that, we’re forever grateful to Ken and the Reuwer family. Ken is a Great America. May the comfort of family and friends bring solace to Ken’s loved ones. God Rest his soul.

Dear Reuwer Family,
We are so very sorry for your loss. You have our deepest condolences. We have many fond memories of our time in Chesapeake with you all.

Faith and fandom connected me to Ken. I had the pleasure of taking in 18 innings of baseball with Ken at Camden Yards and Nationals Park as we watched my nephew, Trey, play. He was a thoughtful conversationalist and always made me laugh. I especially enjoyed accounts of his baseball teams and admired his coaching philosophy of including every child regardless of ability. Luke 18:16 makes me think of Ken.
To Michelle and the wider family and friends. Whilst online I was shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely passing of Ken. Becoming friends with Ken and Michelle following a chance work commitment in Scotland circa 1996, Ken, Michelle and the kids spent time in Scotland with our family memories which we continue to cherish. RIP Ken your service is done. Brian,Kathryn Rachael and Ross
