James Edward Wharton, 79, of Flint Hill, VA, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Page Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Pastor Bobby Jenkins. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Jeffersonton.

James was born June 17, 1936, in Castleton, VA son of the late Oscar and Josie Wharton.

Surviving are his wife Marie R. Wharton of Flint Hill, VA; two daughters Donna Knipfer of Orange, VA and Dianne Washington of Manassas, VA; one brother Jesse Wharton of Culpeper, VA; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Williams, Andrew Williams, Billy Smith, Pete Jenkins, Peter Bair, and Albert Wharton.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
