Ray Jackson Murphy

ray-murphyRay Jackson Murphy, 78, of Strasburg, Virginia passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Warren Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Murphy was born on August 30, 1938 in Warren County, Virginia to the late Lee Wilson Murphy and Marguerite Willey Murphy . He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Ray Murphy, two brothers, Ralph and William Murphy and his sister, Betty Hoynoski.

Ray loved people and no one was a stranger to him. He was a lifelong Warren County resident, a graduate of Warren County High School, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #829, Charter Member of the BPO Elks Lodge #2382 and member of Life Underwriters Association.

He spent most of his life in the insurance profession and received numerous awards during his career. An advocate of his field, his expertise and reputation brought comfort and assurance to many.

Life dealt him many challenges and he relied on his faith to overcome each. He loved his family, and took pride in his family and business profession, and truly loved the friends he made along the way.

The gift of his life is a celebration of a life lived. His passing is a monumental loss.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Murphy; daughter, Tina Murphy Ruggerio; three sons, Barry Murphy (Brenda), Lonnie Murphy and Christopher Murphy; step daughter, Lorie Marsh; step son, Bill Marsh; two brothers, Wayne and Roy Murphy (Lynn); two sisters, Beatrice Oakes and Charlotte Murphy; half sister, Karen Murphy; sister-in-law, Nadene Murphy; four grandchildren, Kerry Ratcliffe, Brielle Sollinger, Christopher Murphy and Jessica Murphy and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Barry Murphy, Lonnie Murphy, Christopher Murphy, Bill Marsh, Chris Murphy and Kevin McIntyre.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Micah Bowen and Glenn Murphy.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.

Memorial donations made be made to the Warren County Humane Society or to a charity of one’s choice in loving memory of Ray.
