Michael Wayne Barker, 65, of Front Royal, VA, formerly of Howard County, MD, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at God’s Place, 200 Reliance Road, Middletown, VA, conducted by Pastor Doug Lowell. A second memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Catonsville, MD, 21228.

Mr. Barker was born March 28, 1951 in Oella, MD, son of the late Elmer Cornelius Barker and Eleanor Francis Hamilton Barker. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the 1st Infantry “Big Red One” during the Viet Nam War and received a Purple Heart. He retired as a corrections officer from Howard County, MD. He was a member of Gods Place Church and a former member of Harwood Park United Methodist Church, Elkridge, MD.

Surviving are his wife Rebecca A. Long of Front Royal; one son Daniel Wayne Barker of Catonsville, MD; two sisters Terry Lynn Zeigler of Catonsville, MD and Deborah Ann Jones of Front Royal, VA; and one brother Roger “Bo” Barker of Berkeley Springs, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shenandoah Oncology Cancer Treatment Center in his memory.
