Keith Charles Heslip, who was born June 27, 1935, passed away on October 18, 2017, at his home in Lake Frederick, VA of kidney failure caused by relapsed multiple myeloma.
Keith graduated from Allen Park H. S. in MI and the U. of Michigan, where he earned a degree in business administration. He then worked for Dana Corporation as a financial analyst until he went into the Air National Guard. Following this stint he enrolled at the U. of CO where he earned a master’s degree in finance. Next he worked for the Comptroller of the Currency in San Francisco. Following his heart and his love for outdoor life in CO, he then earned a teaching certificate from Western State College in CO and began his teaching career, which spanned 33 years, with many years of teaching social studies and business at Boulder middle schools, at the Vo-Tech Center and following his retirement in 1994, three years of teaching business subjects at Front Range Community College. A former teacher at Vo-Tech says that Keith was an outstanding teacher! He was!
In 1969 he did a Fulbright Teacher Exchange with an Englishman from Birmingham, England. They exchanged job, housing and cars for a school year. Before Keith went to England for this swap, he met Mary Lou McConnell in a college class both were taking to renew teaching certificates. The same year as Keith’s exchange, Mary Lou taught elementary music in Baumholder, Germany in a Dept. of Defense Overseas Dependent School. They kept in touch all year and married in Germany on Memorial Day weekend. They had 47 years of happy, good married life together.
Survivors, other than Mary Lou, are their beloved daughters Melanie (Drew) Bond of Falls Church, VA and Louisa (Nikolai) Matveeva of Flint Hill, VA and their children, Katelyn, Reed, Clay and Chase Bond and Bridgette and Milaina Matveeva. These family members were the attraction and impetus for Keith’s and Mary Lou’s move from Boulder and Broomfield, Colorado after 50-plus years, to Lake Frederick, VA in August 2016. Also surviving is brother, Ralph Heslip of Riverside, CA.
Keith was pre-deceased by his parents, Chuck and Angie Heslip and his sister, Alyce Roach.
Keith will be fondly remembered as a kind, caring man, who had quite a repertoire of jokes, who loved to play many racquet sports, CO mountain sports and bridge. He was a Christian. Keith loved to travel. He made “tracks” during his life and is irreplaceable!
A memorial service will be held at Riverton United Methodist Church, 55 E. Strasburg Rd., Front Royal, VA, on Sunday, October 22, 2107 at 3:00.

Mary Lou,
Terry and I were so sorry to hear about Keith’s passing. We are so glad you are close to family to gather strength from.
Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Lovingly,
Terry and Cindie Scoby
Mary Lou
When Leah and I moved to Anthem Ranch, I first met Keith on the tennis courts. I was fortunate to have Keith as a captain of several tennis teams. He was very encouraging and committed to the program as he handled the scheduling of the use of the courts even after he did not play as often.
Leah and I enjoyed playing bridge with Keith and you. I had not played bridge for many years. Keith helped me learn the new conventions. His analytical approach was very helpful.
Grace and peace
My deepest sympathy for your loss. May Jehovah, the God of all comfort, strengthen and comfort you with His promise to swallow up death forever, wiping the tears from our faces. (Isa. 25:8; 2Cor. 1:3) May His promises be a soothing balm for your grieving hearts.
