Kay R. Hickey, age 81 of Mt. Juliet, TN went to be with The Lord on January 23, 2018. Kay grew up in Front Royal, VA. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Lucille (Walker) Ruffner. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Madison College in 1958 and a Master’s in Education from George Washington University. In 1960, her second year of teaching, she taught one of the first desegregated classes in Fairfax Co., VA. She was married to the late Donald Hickey, Jr. and spent most of her life living in Silver Spring, MD where she taught elementary school for 30 years. Left to remember Kay are her two children, Donna (John) Fumai of Moseley, VA, and son, Steve (Samantha) Hickey of Mt. Juliet, TN; five grandchildren; Joe Fumai, Claire Fumai, Kate Fumai, Sierra Hickey and Sean Hickey; brother Paul Ruffner, Jr. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, and sister Mary MacDonald. Nothing made Kay happier than spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. All are welcome to attend a chapel service at Panorama Memorial Gardens, 4917 Strasburg Rd, Strasburg, VA on Saturday, January 27th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Kay’s name to Tulip Grove Baptist Church in Old Hickory, TN.
