Burdette “Burt” Thomas Watson

Burdette “Burt” Thomas Watson (aka “OLD FART” or “Daddy Burt”), 81 of Front Royal, formerly of Brandywine, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center, surrounded by his family after a 6 month battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Mr. Watson was born on November 8, 1936, in Rainier, Oregon to the late Floyd Charles Watson and Frances Lavinia Smoot Watson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Patricia Dutton, Sister Cora Gadbaugh and brothers Francis Stockli and Wallace Leroy Watson.

He is survived by a daughter, Kaye Elizabeth Justice and husband Dan of Front Royal, son Steven Dale Watson and his wife Mamye of Dyersburg, TN; three grandchildren, Heather Nicole Justice and Daniel Morgan Justice of Front Royal and Shane Dale Watson and wife Jackie of Dyersburg, TN; two Great grandchildren, Ashton Claire Watson and William Connor Watson of Dyersburg, TN; one brother Floyd “Chuck” Charles Watson, Jr. and his wife Lillian of Gresham, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.

He joined the USAF in 1956 and retired after 12 years in 1968 as a Sergeant. He was always a strong, hard worker, working up to the age of 81. He worked as a truck driver for several different businesses over the years. He retired from Branch Electric in Maryland after 15 years and was most recently employed by Warren County for 10 years working at the Browntown Transfer Station in Bentonville, VA

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was known as “Old Fart” to his family & friends and was known as “Daddy Burt” to so many of “Watson’s Kids”. He was a wonderful storyteller and could entertain you for hours with them. He was always easy to recognize by his Big Black Western Hat and Cowboy Boots! He loved reading Western novels and was an avid Redskins fan.

A celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date at Howellsville United Methodist Church with Pastor Francis Bertrand officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Howellsville Cemetery Fund.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to Howellsville Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 225, Front Royal,VA 22630 or Shenandoah Oncology Associates, 400 Campus Blvd #100, Winchester, VA 22601.

    To the family of Mr. Watson.
    He will be sorely missed by family and friends, & his Church Family as well.
    He was a fighter.
    You are now in a better place…..no more suffering & with his Lord, whom he loved so much.
