Garnette “Granny” Finkenbinder Abernathy, 93, of Front Royal, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, in her home.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Sammy Campbell. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Chapel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland.

Granny was born on November 19, 1924, in Baltimore, Maryland daughter of the late Elmer Finkenbinder and Hester Florence Schwaber Finkenbinder. She retired after many dedicated years from MVA in Maryland. She was married to the late Mansfield Martin Abernathy.

Surviving are a daughter Debbie Leach of Front Royal; two grandsons Wayne East and fiancé Janice of Front Royal and Scottie East and wife Shannon of Washington, Virginia; one granddaughter Joy Ranaldi and family; two great-granddaughters Sarah East and Hannah East; two special great-great granddaughters Desirea and Skylar; several other great-great-grandchildren; four nieces of Maryland; and one nephew of Maryland; also surviving are Judy and Allen Saylor; and Judy and Alfred Tolson and family, who were like family to her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
