Martha Ann Porter

Martha Ann Porter, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Hospice House in Williamsburg, VA. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases at the age of 71.

A Funeral service will take place at 12 P.M. on Friday, August 9, 2019 at The Church of the Rock in at 620 Virginia Ave. Front Royal, Virginia. Officiating will be Rev. Mamie Bridget. Visiting hours will take place an hour prior to the service.

Born on September 10, 1947 in Front Royal, VA. She was the second oldest of six children to the late Harriett Louvenia Porter-Summers.

Martha attended Criser High and in 1987 Martha enrolled in Tri -County OIC, a program designed to help individuals get their GED and job placement. Martha passed the GED with one of the highest scores that year and was offered several jobs throughout the area. She was even given a plaque and award at the Annual OIC banquet and was interviewed by the local radio station. That year she took a job with Strasburg Automotive as a full-time line person making door panels for Nissan. She worked there for 24 years, retiring due to health issues.

Martha dedicated her life to Christ in the early 80’s becoming a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Happy Creek. She was a member of the Usher Board, Choir, and even taught Sunday School. She loved her church family and reading the bible. Martha was known for being a sharp dresser and had a laugh that would brighten up any room. She enjoyed cooking and was known for making the best potato salad, biscuits, and cheese balls at Christmas time. She loved her grandkids with all her heart and attended every event they participated in. Martha always put her family first and was there for others who needed a helping hand.

She was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Louise Porter, Olivia Mae Stephens, and one brother Harry Porter.

She is survived by her daughters Shirley Ann Porter (Charles Hembry) of Front Royal, VA and Annetta Louvenia Porter-Pringle (the late Keith Pringle) of Hampton Roads, VA. Two brothers Thomas Edward Porter (Lillie Porter) of Strasburg, VA., and Oliver Summers of Washington State. Martha has four grandchildren Kendall Porter (Stephanie) of Front Royal, VA, Janelle Porter of Front Royal, VA, Marcia and Alexis Pringle of Hampton Roads, VA. Four Great grandchild Jamari Kennerly, Jayden and Josiah Porter of Front Royal, VA, and Ilyana Porter of Front Royal, VA. Special nieces Geraldine Matthews (Michael) of Williamsburg, VA, Betty Porter (Aaron) of Front Royal, VA, Tanika Porter (son Jahrel) of Front Royal, VA, Youlanda Fletcher of Front Royal, VA and nephews John Porter (Julia) of Manassas, VA and AJ Tigney of Winchester, VA. And a host
of aunts, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers will be John Porter, Duane Tigney, Anthony Tigney, Michael Matthews, Wayne Jackson and Melvin Porter.

      RIP Martha you was not only a cousin to me but also a big sister you helped me alot while I was growing up .I will never for get your laughter and all fu and good times we use to have .Those where the days . Sandra Buler Surnear.
