I just heard that Mike has left our reality. But, he will never leave our hearts. My was a gentle, kind soul who loved his family, and was passionate about his job. He took great pride in his work, and brought happiness to people because he was such an amazing talent.

I am so sorry for your loss, and I pray that Mike finds the peace and happiness while he looks after his wife and family from the great beyond.

May God Bless you and your family, and all of your Giani family.

For over twenty years, I have been customer at Gianni’s, having Mike cut my hair. During all these years, I have valued not only his skill and professionalism, but his kindness, friendship, and humor. He made everybody feel as if they were family. He was a great listener, and always asked about my family and friends. The first thing I did after receiving my covid vaccine was to call to make an appointment with Mike. It was a terrible shock to hear the heart-breaking news. My heart goes out to his wife and family, and I hope your happy memories bring you comfort . He will be missed very much by everybody who knew him.

I recently learned on Sunday, September 12, 2021, that Mike passed away due to COVID in December 2020. I hadn’t been to the salon for quite some time (@October 2020 before his, Ghizzy’s, Sanaa’s, and my birthdates) and that was the last time I saw Mr. Mike. My own Mom passed away in May of this year 2021, she was a COVID survivor in the early part of 2020, but developed some complications in the Fall of 2020, and my family and I were busy taking care of her until recently. I am deeply saddened and shocked to learn of Mike’s passing!

Mike was so special! He knew all of the clients at Giani Hair Salon in Kingstowne Center, Alexandria, VA — and not just his own. He knew all of the other hair dresser’s clients too. I have been a client of Fares Gharib’s for 20 years. I believe they are the best hair dressers in the world! I always feel like a million bucks when I leave there and get tons of compliments on my hair. All the clients feel like superstars after going to Giani Hair Salon!!! Mike always said hello to each and every one of us every time we went there, and he made us laugh so much…so lighthearted!!! He was always cutting-up–and getting in trouble for it too…LOL. Going to Giani Hair Salon was always my “Happy Place” as it has been for many people! I was SOOO looking forward to seeing Mike again this past Sunday now that everything from my own Mom’s passing is starting to settle down, and I’m feeling like getting out a little bit. I noticed he wasn’t there, and after I got my hair colored, I asked, “Where’s Mike?” That’s when I learned he wasn’t with us anymore. My throat knotted up, and my heart just sunk to my stomach. I could hardly keep my tears contained the entire rest of the time I was there and even after I went home and even now periodically. This has truly been a very hard year for so many.

Normally I put my makeup on after I get my hair done and Mike always would ask me if I had a special event to attend or a hot date. We would all laugh. This time, I didn’t put my makeup on… I. just. couldn’t do it. I only knew Mr. Mike from Giani Hair Salon, but Mike was a character and a big part of the best team of hair dressers I have ever known or ever will know!!! They always make you feel like you are “family” there and especially Fares, Ghizzy, and Mr. Mike!!!

Mike was one of those people who I think we take for granted in life…the people who are like…the ‘light’ that ‘lights up the room’…they can always be depended on and we think they will always ‘be there!!’ They are the ones who humbly go without taking credit, who always make everyone else smile, and make mundane stuff seem like “fun”… and they never miss a beat!! They are the motivators, the ones who help lift our hearts by their innocent and casual caring mannerisms/if even it is just to say “hello” everytime they see us walk through the door, the ones who compliment us or have something positive to say that makes our hearts keep beating on a positive note, and it puts a pep in our steps everytime we see them … without even realizing that they have that affected us so much.

My heart..has just skipped a beat… 💔 I cannot imagine how you are all feeling and I pray that you are healing and that you somehow find joy in this post about your loved one, Mike. I think God broke the mold when they made Mike…For sure!!! He was such a person of pure JOY!!!

I hope my tiny contribution on the Go Fund Me page for him at https://www.gofundme.com/f/michael-atsiknoudas-memorial-fund helps. I will try to contribute more if I can to help you all . Mike was always working!!! You are all in my prayers and thoughts. Peace, Light, and Love to you all~ Fares’s Client, Meg Lawrence (Guy)
