Ammon Lee Rodgers, 90, of Front Royal, VA, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Lee was born on May 14, 1934, in Hillsboro, VA to Clarence Albert and Estella Virginia (Webb) Rodgers.  He was the youngest of four children and grew up in the Hillsboro area as well as the Gettysburg and New Oxford areas of Pennsylvania.  He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Parker Poston (“Betty”); his parents; and his siblings.

Lee was always a mischievous and adventurous boy, getting into pitchfork fights with his older brother, Junior, falling through ceilings of his school, and playing pranks on other kids.  He loved the outdoors and as a kid worked on a farm near Hillsboro belonging to his grandparents, Carl and Rachel Webb.  He also developed a passion for hunting, a sport that he enjoyed throughout life until his last year.  Lee graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln, VA in 1953 and married Betty, his high school sweetheart, in June 1955.  They were married for 66 years before her death in 2021.

In addition to serving in both the Army and Air Force during the Korean War, Lee worked for Virginia Power for 37 years in the Leesburg and Woodbridge, VA offices.  He also operated a tree business and continued to work on trees until his last year.  Lee loved to work, a trait that both he and Betty passed onto their sons.  They instilled in their sons the joy of working together as a family.  Lee also enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing cards, camping, canoeing, water skiing, and spending quality time with his family.

Lee accepted Christ and was baptized in 1971 at Round Hill Baptist Church, Round Hill, VA and later was a member at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Manassas, VA and Rileyville Baptist Church in Luray, VA.  He served the churches in many different roles throughout the years and the community through the Purcellville, VA Lions Club and later through the Salvation Army in Front Royal, VA.

Lee is survived by sons, Mike (Pegi) of Manassas, VA and Tony (Angie) of Acworth, GA.  He was affectionately known as “Papaw” to five grandchildren, Shana (Chris) Smith of Woodbridge, VA, Kristen (Josh) Roy of Burr Hill, VA, Casey (Conner) Lane of Bristow, VA, Matthew Rodgers of Woodstock, GA, and Nathaniel Rodgers of Woodstock, GA; and to eight great-grandchildren, Harper and Maxwell Smith, Charlotte, Caroline, Cash, and Colsen Roy, and Scottie and Hallie Lane.  He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, who fondly loved their Uncle Lee.

A visitation will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Round Hill Baptist Church, Round Hill, VA with a celebration of life service following at 2 p.m.  Graveside services will immediately follow at Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, VA.  Both services are open to family and friends.
