In Loving Memory of Brenda Mills

    Brenda,
I haven’t seen you since the day we gathered at Maddox Funeral Home, and I remember thinking then—how many of these dear faces will I never see again? Yours never crossed my mind as one of them.
You were always there. I can’t think of a single birthday party for my children where you weren’t present making sure everything ran smoothly, lending your hands, your heart, your voice. You had a way of ensuring that things got done right, and with love. It’s one of life’s cruel truths: we rarely grasp the full weight of someone’s presence until they’re gone. I find myself thinking about Thanksgivingyour unmistakably loud directives, always insisting I “shut up and just do it her way.” I still haven’t quite mastered that concept, but in moments like this, I realize just how right you were.
I struggle with change. I think many of us do. And the hardest part is not knowing that you’re living in the good old days until they’re already behind you. I wish someone had told me then—told all of us—to hold tighter, speak kinder, and stay a little longer. So now, I’ll do as you always advised: I’ll be quiet for a moment, and I’ll pray. For comfort, for peace, and for the strength to carry on with a little more of your boldness, your laughter, and your heart.

Thank you, Brenda for being family, for being love in motion, and for reminding us all how to live louder.

    With love,
