Dan S. Price, Jr., 72, of Rixeyville, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
Dan was born January 9, 1944 to the late Dan S. Price, Sr. and Laura Price Ross.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gail DeHaven Price; his daughters, Jo Lea Gilmore (Kenneth) of Rixeyville and Shannon Price of Culpeper, Virginia and his pride and joy, granddaughter, Stevie Lee Gilmore.
Dan was preceded in death by his most loving, faithful and devoted shadow, his dog ITSY.
Dan was a veteran of the US Air Force, A Blacksmith-farrier, having worked at the Charles Town Races for 30 years, an employee of GM and retired a jet engine mechanic for United Airlines.
Dan fought a long hard and very painful battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He said he was a prisoner in his own body and was ready to be released.
He wanted to thank his very special friend and chosen brother, Jay Marshall, for all their years together and Ray Riley for watching the races, football and baseball with him.
So many thanks go to Hospice of the Piedmont for their wonderful care in his final days.
A very special thank you to his daughter and son-in-law, Jo Lea and Kenneth Gilmore, for their unwavering devotion in the care of their father.
A memorial service will be held at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia, on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM with The Rev. William Queen, Jr. of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM.
