Dana Dell Shaffer

Dana Dell Shaffer, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the age of 77.

Born September 16, 1946 in Savannah, Georgia to Virginia and Osgood Shearouse, Dana moved to McLean, Virginia as a teenager with her family where she would later meet her husband, Elmer Shaffer. They started a family in 1973 and moved to Front Royal, Virginia, where she was a loving and guiding wife and devoted mother to her four children.

Dana gave all to her family and prided herself on getting the kids off to school on time with clean clothes and a good breakfast, or even just the smiles on her family’s faces when a family (or neighborhood) favorite recipe made it into the meal rotation!

Dana loved knitting and was always eager to share her creations with the people she loved. She took pride in her canning skills and enjoyed her word search puzzles and watching her soaps in her spare time. Dana had deep love for her church and singing on Sundays. Her love extended to all those who knew her and she will be remembered for her warm smile, loving personality, and her mischievous giggle.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Elmer; her children, Charles Shaffer (Laura Maxey), Brian (Tina) Shaffer, Edith Shaffer, and William (Sara) Shaffer; two grandchildren, Duane Shaffer and Lisa Shaffer; siblings, Mary Bach and Charles (Linda) Shearouse; and last but not least, her family at Grace Bible Fellowship Church where she loved all so dearly.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Maddox Funeral Home on Saturday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens in Warren County.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice at (540) 313-9200 or https://www.brhospice.org/donate

Rest in peace, mom. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.

I can’t find words to say but Loving Brother I am really going to miss her and her joking around and watching her turn red from laughing so hard. I remember you all would stop by and you said you want to go to the Variety Store or when we went to Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel. I remember when she first got her drivers license and she was soooo excited. She started going to church and come home telling us about how the little ones ran up to her and gave her a big hug. Big brother I don’t know how she put up with you but I know she has just got her gold crown for staying 51 years with you. Ya did a great job marrying her but on a serious note I am so so sorry for you and your family’s loss. Love you Big brother Your Loving Sister.

Words cannot describe such mixed emotions and what our family has been throughout all these years. My Aunt Dana was always smiling and so happy. I will always cherish our family gatherings for the holidays in Virginia. Family was and always has been important, and I’m forever grateful for the wonderful memories. I will miss your famous gingerbread cookies and fudge at Christmastime Aunt Dana! I will miss your thoughtful birthday cards and holiday cards too! I wish I could be there to help my cousins through the heartbreak and grief they are going to endure. I want Uncle Dave, Cousins Charles, Brian, Edie and William to know I am thinking of you all and sending so much love from Pennsylvania. You are all in my thoughts and prayers ❤️ Aunt Dana may you rest in peace and no longer suffer in the pain. Thank you for all your love and support through the years and watching me grow up to the woman and mother I’ve become. I will miss you terribly, until we meet again. Rest in eternal light….Watch over all of us; Family Forever!
Much love, Your one and only favorite niece(Mary Bachs daughter) Alison Onega and children send their condolences as well…Austin & Ashley Onega

I only had the opportunity to meet Dana in person a few times. She was a sweet, kindhearted, loving soul. I am so very sorry for your loss. She ran a good race and now rests in heaven with those who have transitioned before her. I’m sure your heart must ache missing such a wonderful devoted woman.
My sympathy and prayers are with you,
    Shara Abel
