Eleanor Roots Schumann passed away peacefully on September 10th, in her home in Front Royal, VA one month after her 90th birthday.
She was born on Lushan Mountain in China, into a missionary family. Returning to the United States when she was 17, she joined Moral Rearmament (MRA) for several years prior to pursuing a nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University.
In 1960, she moved to Paris to work at the L’Hopital Americain for a year abroad. One year turned into 54, as she moved to Germany, met her future husband Reinhard and raised 4 children. After Reinhard’s death in 2014, she returned to the United States and settled in Front Royal with her son Karl and family.
Eleanor is survived by her brother Logan Roots, four children Steven, Astrid, Sigrid and Karl and seven grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Reinhard, her parents Logan and Mamie Lou Roots and sister Loretta Libby.
A funeral service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Front Royal on October 18th, at 3:00 pm and she will be buried on Mackinac Island, Michigan.

Eleanor will be missed by all of us at Calvary. She had a beautiful soul. Rest in peace my friend.
Eleanor was a kind and gentle woman. She was an integral part of our American Protestant Church in Bonn, Germany and has been missed since she returned to the States some years ago. We were blessed to have her in our lives when we did.
I meet Eleanor at the APC church in 2005 . We became great friends during those 9 years .
She was a great encourager , always had a good word to say ! She made you feel special .
She loved Jesus , He shone from her . She was a prayer warrior . She loved people .
Elenor had a servant heart , walked in humility.
We will meet again in glory . Love you ❤️
It was a joy for my family and especially for my daughter Rose to have known Eleanor these past three and a half years. She had such a beautiful and rare spirit. She was always joyful and peaceful and she was interested in everyone she met. We all will miss seeing Eleanor at school functions and around town! Rest in Peace dear Eleanor!
