Hildegard Wolf Shipe, our beloved “Oma”, peacefully passed over the hills of Germany to be with the love of her life, “Opa”, on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at her home surrounded by family and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 2 PM at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Rockland Cemetery.
Mrs. Shipe was born on September 24, 1942 in Germany to the late Josef and Cordula Klein Wolf. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ernest “Opa” Shipe; granddaughter, Kelsey Elizabeth Shipe; grandson, Mason R. Cullers; daughter-in-law, Michelle Shipe; sister, Ria Wolf; two brothers, Joseph Wolf and Richard Wolf and nephew, Allen Frazier. She retired from Aileen Sewing Factory in 1994 after 29 years of service. Her hometown of Oberammergau, Germany was famous for the production of a Religious Passion Play performed every ten years since 1634. She was a member of the choir for this production in 1960 with 105 performances from May to October with the next performances in 2030 and 2034.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Phillip Shipe and his wife Lisa and Michael Scott Shipe; sister-in-law, Linda Wolf; five grandchildren, Samantha, Charley, Matthew, Merritt and Maelin; one great grandson, Owen; nieces, Diana Wolf and Anja Wolf; nephew, Max Wolf and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
