Joshua Francis Carter, 31, of Front Royal passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015, in the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 4th, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by The Rev. Alan Combs. Burial will be private.

Mr. Carter was born October 10, 1983, in Front Royal, son of Tony F. and Tina Adler Carter of Linden. He was an insurance agent in Front Royal.

Mr. Carter was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Warren County High School Class of 2001 where he played varsity basketball. He was very artistic and had many interests including carpentry, making stained glass, cooking, gardening, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and playing piano and keyboard. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Most of all, he loved his family. He is now at peace and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving with his parents are a sister Samantha N. Carter of North Carolina; two brothers, Christopher F. Carter of Washington, D.C. and Patrick J. Carter of Hong Kong; maternal grandfather William F. Adler of Winchester; paternal grandparents Violet P. and Franklin D. Carter of Front Royal; three aunts Patricia C. Reith (Howie), Terri Heishman (Jim), and Tammy Foremen (Gary); and a number of loving cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Doris A. Adler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center, West Complex, Fourth Floor, 1300 Jefferson Park Ave., Charlottesville, VA 22903. The family wishes that many are encouraged to donate blood through their local community blood drives. It is also hoped that everyone will consider becoming an organ donor.

The family wishes to especially thank the University of Virginia Medical ICU team and their physicians, nurses, and staff.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
