Robert Edward “Bobby” North

Robert Edward “Bobby” North, 92, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Evergreen Health and Rehab in Winchester, Virginia.

All services will be private due to Covid.

Bobby was born June 28, 1928, in Rappahannock County, Virginia, son of the late Richard Basil and Annie Thompson North. Mr. North attended Warren County Schools and graduated from Randolph Macon Academy. He attended Wake Forest University on a football scholarship until he was drafted. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the United Methodist Men. He received the Service Candle in 2002. He worked for Avtex for 38 years. Bobby was an original board member of the Front Royal Cardinals, a longtime Jaycee, member of the Lions Club and a volunteer fireman for many years. He coached TWVA in Little League Baseball and Gold/Lions Midget Football Team for many years. He loved working in his garden and walking the streets of Front Royal talking to everyone he met, and was an avid sportsman.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 68 years Jewel Bean North; two sons Robert R. North and wife Jackie of Front Royal and Steven A. North and wife Rhonda of Front Royal; one daughter Mary Ann Otey and husband Donnie of Warrenton; four grandchildren Emily Catron of Luray, Robert Patrick North of Stephens City, Joshua Otey of the U.K. and Brian Otey of Stephenson; and eight great-grandchildren Claire, Cora, Davis, Emma, Payton, Max, Bradley and Caroline.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Woodrow Joe North.

The family would like to thank the staff of Evergreen Health and Rehab for his care during the seven months he resided there and Gina Athey for the care in his home.
