Rudolph R. “Rudy” Flores

Rudolph R. “Rudy” Flores, died December 14, 2020, from complications of a stroke at age 76. Preceded in death by the light of his life, his wife Patty, in 2007, they are together again. Rudy taught in the hearing-impaired program in Tacoma Public Schools for many years, and then in the special ed program at LH Bates Vocational Technical School, which later became Bates Technical College after its split with Tacoma Schools. While at Bates he got his administrative credential and finished his career as an assistant principal at Mt. Tahoma and later at Wilson High School. Rudy had a wonderful baritone voice and loved to sing; Emily Lou Harris and Townes Van Zandt were favorites. He was a member of a folk/rock band in his late teens/early twenties. He joked about his “guitar acquisition syndrome” and had a multitude of very fine guitars. He also enjoyed the occasional fine cigar and single malt scotch, often discussing politics or theology with his son and friends. He spent four years in the Army during the Viet Nam era. He is survived by his daughter Katy of Sedona Arizona, and his son Will and wife Tina and grandchildren Lex and Gus, all of Virginia, four brothers (Bill Flores, Dave Flores, Phil Flores, Paul Flores) and a sister (Toni Meads) of Springfield, Oregon. He spent many years restoring a old Nash Metropolitan, with his son Will, which gave him great joy. He moved to Virginia in 2017 to be close to his grandsons and family, who will dearly miss him. The young boys often waited by the front door for “Big Papa” to come in and enjoy a home cooked meal. As believers In Jesus Christ, we look forward to seeing him again (John 14:19).
