It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Warren H. Brown, Jr. on November 6, 2024, at MedStar Washington Hospital in Washington, DC. Warren was born on January 23, 1950, to Warren H. Brown, Sr., and Pauline Tice Brown in Front Royal, Virginia. He attended John S. Mosby Academy and graduated in 1967. Shortly thereafter Warren joined the United States Navy and after attending Basic Training was assigned to the staff of the Vice Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon from January 1970 to May 1972. During this time he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, and one of his most treasured achievements, The Navy Achievement Medal, presented to him by the Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Ralph Cousins, for his service and devotion to the Office of the Navy.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy Warren took business classes and became a realtor in the state of Virginia. He began his career with Donald Vaughn Realty in Front Royal, Va where he eventually met his business partner, Bobby E. Rutherford. In 1985 the two opened Brown and Rutherford Realty where they remained partners until 2021, when Bobby passed away. Warren continued working off and on as a real estate broker until his death, enjoying helping others find their forever home.
In 1985 Warren became a devoted member of the Front Royal Rotary and served as president from 2001-2002. He received several awards during his years as an active Rotarian including three Outstanding Service Awards, The William Skelton Award, and was a three-time Paul Harris Fellow. During this time, he also received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Front Royal/Warren County Chamber of Commerce. After his granddaughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, he became an advocate and donor to JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He truly lived a life of service to his family and the community in which he lived and worked for many years.
He had a passion for travel and was always excited to share this with his wife and family. He enjoyed taking walks through historic Fredericksburg where he has resided with his wife since 2012. He found a renewed love of music and loved attending concerts in DC. He was a lifelong fan of the Washington Commanders and an avid NASCAR fan as well. He cherished time with family especially his great-grandson, born last year.
His family will miss him deeply as he was such a huge presence in all of our lives, but his legacy will be carried on by his loving wife of 12 years, Betty Gordon Brown; his daughter, Christina Brown Barnes (Ryan); his grandson, Allen B. Grimm, Jr (Joseph); granddaughter, Abigail G. Cameron (Tyler); and one great-grandchild, Asher Gray Cameron. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him dearly.
Along with his parents, Warren was preceded in death by two daughters, Angela M. Brown and Melissa A. Brown; his sister, Jane B. Wine; and his brother, Robert Brown.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1 pm at Marlow Heights Baptist Church, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall for a celebration of Warren’s life with his family and friends. A private burial will take place at a later date in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

prayers to Mr. Brown’s family and friends. I did not know him personally but he was my parent’s landlord on Kerfoot avenue. I will always remember him as the kind man that gave our family our first home. May he rest in peace.
So saddened to hear about Warren passing. He was our realtor and friend many years ago. Our prayers go out to his children and family.

I am in shock over this great loss. Warren, Jr., as we called him growing up, was loved by all. He had such a warm personality, like his mom, and loved to talk, like his dad. We were just talking this past summer about cruising to Alaska and touring the Denali. It was my first cruise and he was so eager to give me pointers of what to expect and loved to share his photos of the bears and moose. I just now heard of his passing, since I was in Nassau with family at the time. My sympathies are with Betty, Tina and the rest of his family. He is in a better place with his mom and dad and children. Warren,Jr., you and your smile will be missed.
