Jane Angus White, 100, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025 at Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury in Winchester.

All family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation and the graveside service with the visitation being held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Maddox Funeral Home, with the graveside service to follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bryan White officiating.

Jane was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 8, 1924, the only child of Thomas Lee Angus and Dorothy Treece Angus. After her father’s death, Jane’s mother remarried Col. Samuel Rolfe Millar, Jr of Front Royal, VA, “Daddy Rolfe” to Jane.

Jane attended Warren County High School, graduated from Stuart Hall in Staunton, VA, and received her BA from Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. She taught in Florida, and then returned to Front Royal where she married J. D. White, an active duty U.S. Naval Officer, in December 1947.

During two tours at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and one in Norfolk, VA, Jane and J.D. had three children. They were subsequently stationed in Pearl Harbor, HI, Charleston, SC, Norfolk, VA, and Quonset Point, RI. After J.D. retired from the Navy in 1964, the family moved back to Front Royal. Jane had returned to teaching elementary school when her youngest was in first grade. She continued to teach in Warren County Public Schools until all three of their children graduated from college (1976).

Jane was a devoted member of Calvary Episcopal Church, where she chaired an Altar Guild Group for over 30 years. An accomplished flower arranger, she was a member of The Garden Club of Warren County for more than 50 years. Active in the community, Jane was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Warren Memorial Hospital, the American Cancer Society of Warren County, the Blue Ridge Arts Council, the Warren Heritage Society, and was a docent at Belle Grove Plantation. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, and playing bridge.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, LCDR John Downing White, USN (Ret).

Surviving Jane are her children, Rolfe Downing White (Sally) of Richmond, VA, Diane White Fechtel (Tom) of Staunton, VA, and Corinne White Llewellyn (Ron) of Front Royal, VA; her five grandchildren, Katie White Palmore (Jeff), Bryan White (Laurin), Mark Fechtel (former spouse, Anne), Blake Fechtel, and Andi Llewellyn Pollard (Matt); and her nine great-grandchildren, Landon and Carter Palmore, Tucker and Sanders White, Janie, Luke, and Jack Fechtel, and Claire and Graham Pollard.
