Norman Herald “Norm” Beckwith

Norman Herald “Norm” Beckwith, 89, of Woodstock, Virginia peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at his home surrounded by family.

Mr. Beckwith was born on June 15, 1936 in Washington, DC to the late Everett and Faye Derbyshire Beckwith.

He grew up in Arlington and Fairfax, Va. He was part owner of a sporting goods store in Arlington for many years. Life-long Redskins fan. He moved to Florida with his wife and bought a trophy shop and returned to Virginia in his final year. After he sold the trophy business, he worked at the local golf course for 17 years. Some of his favorite things were time spent with family, golfing and boating on the Chesapeake Bay on the Stormin’ Norman.  He loved spending time at Disney World, family vacations in Nags Head, North Carolina and Ocean City, Md.  He never met a stranger that didn’t end up being a friend by the end of the conversation.

As a veteran he was so proud of the time he spent in the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gail Purcell Beckwith; sons, Keith Beckwith (Theresa), Christopher Beckwith and Michael (Tiny) McCarthy, daughter, Susan Beckwith Pierce, Louise McDonald and preceded by Bonnie Shackleford.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 2 PM at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, Virginia. Family will receive guests at home after the service.
