James Paul “Jimbo” Benjamin, 51, of Front Royal, VA passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Warren Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 8 at 12:00 p.m. at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD.
Jimbo was born December 21, 1964 in Washington, D.C. son of James I. Benjamin, Jr. of Front Royal and the late Beverly Marie Weller Benjamin.
Though he was born deaf, he never let his disability hold him back. He was very active and bowled on leagues for many years, loved camping, Nascar, the Redskins and his family.
In 1996 he was the first recipient of a successful bilateral lung transplant performed at Inova Fairfax Hospital. In 2002 he was one of 14,000 runners selected to carry the Olympic torch on it’s journey to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Surviving along with his father are his siblings Keith Benjamin and wife Cherri of Rockville, MD, Kenneth Benjamin and wife Patricia of Pittsburgh, PA, and Angela Benjamin Ramsey and husband Robbie of Front Royal; nieces and nephews Monica Bolt, R.J. Ramsey, Jeremy Bolt, Emily Ramsey, Madelyn Ramsey and Parker Benjamin.
Along with his mother he was preceded in death by a brother Kevin Benjamin.
