Gilbert Edward Atkins, Jr., 68, of Front Royal, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2017, in the Winchester Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 1:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Carlton Rogers. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 27, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gilbert was born on July 6, 1949, in Linden, son of the late Gilbert Edward Atkins, Sr. and Catherine Jenkins Atkins. He owned and operated his own business Atkins Custom Work and Landscaping for over thirty years and retired from Melon Farm in Middleburg.
Surviving are his wife of forty-seven years Sally Ann Henry Atkins; two sons Gilbert Edward “Eddie” Atkins, III and wife Jennifer of Salem, and Richard Campbell and wife Amanda of Madison; four daughters Deborah Foster and husband Will of Front Royal, Becky Brill of Front Royal, Toni Chappell and husband Tim of Luray, and Larena Torres and husband J.R. of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters Polly Sloat-Barnes of Front Royal, Jane Kenney of Front Royal, and Phillis Finn of Calabash, North Carolina; eight grandchildren Brooke Grim, Lexi and Trey Chappell, Cooper and Brianna Brill, Jorja Atkins, Olivia, Chase, and Devin Campbell.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents and a special cousin who was like a brother Richard Lee Jenkins.
