Opal Jones Joyner, of Charlottesville, VA but most recently of Linden, VA, went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2015 held in the arms of Jesus.
She was pre-deceased by her father and mother, Charlie and Effie Jones and a brother, Alfonza Jones, all of Greenville, NC.
Survivors are her husband, Marvin R. Joyner of Charlottesville, VA; one son, Randal (Randy) M. Joyner of Linden, VA; and one daughter, Tami Brown of Charlottesville, VA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Justin Hathaway of Washington, DC, Rebekah Brown Melan and Gatlin Brown of Charlottesville, VA. She is also survived by two sisters, Sybil Morris of Greenville, NC and Onnie Bowling of Augusta, GA.
She was retired from Sperry Marine Systems in Charlottesville after 31 years of employment and also worked for many years at the University of Virginia Community Credit Union.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charlottesville and also sang in the choir for a number of years.
She was active and held the office of Secretary in the Charlottesville Republican Committee.
In addition to gardening, her greatest joy was being a loving mother to her family.
The family extends tremendous thanks and appreciation to Blue Ridge Hospice for their supportive care and services.
A memorial service will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Greenville, NC on August 1st at 11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Joyner loved flowers so memorial gifts may be made in the form of floral arrangements for her service.
