Richard E. “Dickie” Thompson

Richard E. “Dickie” Thompson passed away peacefully on September 7, 2022. Dickie was born on January 29, 1936 son of the late James Ernest Thompson and Charlotte Tyler Griffith Thompson. He is survived by his sister Jean Arrington of King George, and brothers Bobby Thompson of Front Royal, John Thompson of Compton and Phillip Thompson, also of Compton. He was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Yates, Juanita King, Ruby Thompson, Helen Lentz, Alta Miller and Judy Crites; and three brothers James, Harry and Jack Thompson.

At the age of 16, Dickie came to live at the Jennings Farm, owned by the late Rube and Pearl Jennings. When Dickie wasn’t on the farm, you would find him visiting with family up the road, attending Church, sitting in his rocking chair on his porch, or out with his dear friend, Ruben “Gman” Jennings. Dickie loved being entertained by his favorite little “rugrats” who always knew he had smarties in his pocket for them as a treat.

Graveside services will be held September 22nd at 11am at the Jennings Family Cemetery. The cemetery is located in the 400 blk of Jennings Lane in Bentonville, VA. Services are being handled by Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell Officiating.

Pallbearers are Jason Kenney, Steven Wooddell, Daniel Wood, Lane Kenney and Joey Jock. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lynn Care Center Residents Fund located in Front Royal.
