David “Dave” Lee Greth, 56, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Dave was born on November 11, 1964 in Fort Gordon, Georgia to the late Thomas Greth and Linda Machemer Greth.
He was an Information Technology Specialist with Prince William County Schools but was so much more than that to the staff at Brentsville High School, where he worked for more than 15 years. There is not a soul who did not know who he was, did not spend time shooting the breeze with him, and did not know that they had to fill out a “work order” in order to get IT help. He served in the United States Army for 8 years and was honorable discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Harley Owner’s Group (HOG) in Winchester.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Greth and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Haynes.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Greth; his wife of 14 years (together for the last 20 years), Karen Greth; daughter, Stephanie Greth; step daughter, Maggie Choma (Mike); sister, Barbara Rice (Ben); niece, Sara Haynes; and grandson, Nathan Choma. All of whom wish they could ask one more time, “May I rise?” or hear that they may refer to him as “high, lord, king, god, and/or emperor.”
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Veterans Administration at https://www.va.gov/ogc/giftsova.asp.

It’s the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you’ll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will bring back the smiles…in time. I hope you find comfort and happiness in knowing that your husband has touched the lives and hearts of so many others and gave them the eternal gift of many happy memories. Karen, my heart hurts for you.
Dave was also such a good friend when I was at Brentsville – my heart goes out to his family
So sorry for your loss prayers 🙏 for everyone
Dave, commonly known as “Grumpy” around our school, was a beloved personality there. He dubbed each of us with funny and apt nicknames. We will all miss him very much. My prayers go out to the entire family that they will comforted by their memories of him. 🥲
Dave, your sudden death has touched many lives and hearts.
The way you have inspired others has touched us even more.
My deepest sympathies for your family.
I served with Dave in the Army in Korea… He was a great guy!!!
We’ve kept in touch on and off over the years…
All of his brothers in the “33” field Send their condolences!
I’ve just found out that Dave passed. I worked at Prince William Hospital when he was in IT there. A great sense of humor, very kind, and dare I say patient with my ability to have to have him come to the office to “fix” my computer. We stayed in touch a bit after he left the PWH system, he moved to VA and I moved from VA to NC. Was going to check in with him and see how things were going…guess I know now. Condolences to Dave’s friends and family. Rest easy Master Conqueror, may I rise?
