Earl E. King was given the gift of life on July 15, 1932, and he gave it back peacefully on March 5, 2016, at the age of 83. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandad, great-grandad, brother, and friend who will be missed by all.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Panorama Memorial Gardens at Waterlick.
Earl was born on July 15, 1932, in Warrenton, son of the late Elmer Willis King Sr. and Agnes Lee Harrington Woodward. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean War from 1951 until 1954, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Earl was employed with Heckman Bindery from 1951 until his retirement in 2005. He enjoyed watching tv especially Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, football and Nascar. Earl enjoyed going to Mom’s Country Kitchen where he often ate lunch with his buddies.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years whom he married on March 11, 1960 Kathryn Janet King; one son Earl E. King, Jr. and wife Angela of Front Royal; three daughters Tamra Lynn Snoots and husband Herbert of Front Royal, Linda Denise Gordon and husband Richard of Front Royal, and Kristy Leigh Day and husband Eric of Front Royal; one sister Dorothy Atkins and husband Woodrow of Front Royal; one half-brother Richard E. “Dicky” Woodward of Star Tannery; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Earl was also preceded in death by his step-dad Richard Woodward and a brother Elmer Willis King, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Chuckie Johnson, Dennis Funk, Jason King, Neil Eskridge, Richard Gordon, Jr., and Ronnie Garber, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
