Earnest Grubbs Chrisman, 89, of Front Royal, VA, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at his home.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Ralph Crabill and Rev. Robert “Buzz” Moore. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Chrisman was born August 4, 1927 , son of John David and Mary Bell Mauck Chrisman of Bentonville, VA. He retired from VDOT with 30 years and six months of dedicated service. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and was founder of Warren County Workshop for the Handicapped now Blue Ridge Opportunity. Mr. Chrisman was a member of the Fork Improvement Association for over 60 years. He served on the Northwestern Workshop Board of Directors, served on the Disability Service Board and was a member of ARC.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joan Ritenour Chrisman; one daughter Dorothy “Dottie” Chrisman of Front Royal; foster son Craig Ritenour of Bentonville, VA; and one sister Mattie Virginia Lentz. Along with his parents, Mr. Chrisman was preceded in death by his brothers William Edward Chrisman, David Franklin Chrisman, James Daniel Chrisman, Richard Paul Chrisman, John Perry Chrisman, infant brother George Newton Chrisman; and a foster sister Lorraine Gray Clem.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Chrisman, Roger Chrisman, Richard Chrisman, Tim Clem, David Chrisman, and Bryan Chrisman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Smedley, Norman Hoffman, Tony Rozanski, Alvin McDonald, Raymond McDonald, and Eddie Noakes.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
