Eleanor Showers Chadwell, 86, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Commonwealth Senior Living.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Front Royal United Methodist Church with Pastor Rachel Plemmons and Reverend Dee Penley officiating. A time of visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Following all services the burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Eleanor was born on October 7, 1939 in Fauquier County, Virginia to the late Thomas Henry and Stella Mauch Showers. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Hilbert Eugene Chadwell.
Surviving Eleanor are her loving children, Gena Swisher (Bryan) of Belle Haven, Virginia, and Michael E. Chadwell (Robin) of Bentonville, Virginia; her sister, Evelyn Ricci; and her grandchildren, Philip E. Chadwell, Robert M. Chadwell, and Lesley H. Swisher.
Eleanor was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed quilting in her spare time with the ladies of the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Front Royal United Methodist Church at 1 W Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.
I am saddened by her passing she did my hair for years including on my wedding day. I know she will be missed by many. Prayers and thoughts go to all who knew and loved her.
So sorry to hear of Ms Chadwell ‘s passing. She was a very beautiful person and was always very gracious to us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Eleanor was well respected and loved at FRUMC. She was very involved in all of the church activities — with a friendly smile and hug. And she was a welcome face to the elderly and shut-ins that she so kindly visited. She will be missed ❤️
