Elias Waldo ‘Wally’ Wines, 83, of Chester Gap walked through the gates of heaven on Thursday, December 26, 2024. Wally was born to the late Elias and Katherine Henry Wines on June 8, 1941. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ford Lee Haun, Herman Robinson, Roger Haun and Truin Wines; four sisters, Mazie Williams, Daisy Jones, Hazel Williams and Marlen Wines; and one son in law, Timmy Williams.
A carpenter by trade, Wally built and restored houses in our community that many have called home. He married Jean Wines on September 19, 1962. Together they built a life full of family, friends, and neighbors. Wally will be remembered for his gentle heart and quick smile. Many of us can recall a silly song or funny story told by Wally.
In addition to his wife Jean, he is survived by two daughters, Sandra Brown (Todd) and Gail Williams. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Clinton Wines (Kandace), Natalie Williams (Dallas), Ashley Smith (Vernon), Leslie Williams (Michael) and Tim Williams (Sarah); 7 great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kyndahl, Leah, Randy, Russell, Emalyn, and Easton; one brother, Ray Wines; and four sisters, Helen Foster, Virgie Ubben, Lou Williams, and Mae Oliver.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Wines, Tim Williams, Randy Smith, Chris Ubben, BJ Longmire, John Grigsby. Honorary pallbearers will be Natalie Williams, Ashley Smith, Leslie Williams, Brooklyn Smith, Kyndahl Wines and Leah Williams.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at 11 AM at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal with Pastor John Kenney Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Internment following at Williams Family Cemetery in Chester Gap.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
