Frances Martha Baker Vermillion

Frances Martha Baker Vermillion, 93, died Friday, January 30, 2015, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

Rev. Buzz Moore will conduct a funeral service on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 2 pm, at Maddox Funeral Home, with visitation an hour before the service. Burial will follow at Bennett’s Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Poling, Calvin Duncan, Skippy Giles, Don Hilton, Peter Roy, and Jeff Funk.

Mrs. Vermillion was born June 8, 1921 in Warren County. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Elmer Baker and Edna Pearl Palmer.

Her mother passed away while Mrs. Vermillion was just a teenager leaving Frances as the family matriarch, in charge of the daily care of her siblings and her father.

Many a family member found comfort during times of illness under her dedicated supervision. Though she was a homemaker and caregiver most of her life, Frances will best be remembered as a strong woman who took pleasure in the self sufficiency she gained through raising her children and maintaining her home and small family farm.

She enjoyed being surrounded by family, playing dominoes with her babies and BINGO with her friends, teaching others to cook, in addition to making beautiful quilts and teaching the art of quilting to others, thereby passing her love on to other generations.

Mrs. Vermillion is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ramey and her husband, Ralph, Ruth Tyree and her husband Niles, and her sister, Jean McDonald, all of Front Royal.

She was the proud and cherished grandmother, grandmother-in-law, and great-grandmother to Sally Meredith and her husband Del-Ray Meredith, and their children Katie Mosher, Morgan Meredith, and Schae Meredith; Angela Tyree Gouda and her husband Jo Jo Gouda, and their children Ginger Gouda and Bridget Gouda (also known as “Brittany” to her Granny); and Jason Tyree and fiancée Jessica Heflin, and her daughter Arianna Whitworth.

Mrs. Vermillion is also survived by numerous friends who were like family, including, Jeraldine Ridgway and Jean Lang, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Heston Vermillion, by her sons Robert “Bob” Vermillion and James “Jimmy” Vermillion, and by her siblings Dorothy Wood, Roy Baker, and Frank Baker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 49 Kendrick Ford Road, Front Royal, VA 22630.
