James E. Burke, 86, of Bentonville, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will be private in Bentonville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Burke was born June 4, 1938 at home in Warren County, son of the late Eric Allen and Bessie Elizabeth Corbin Burke.
Mr. Burke was a graduate of Warren County High School, Class of 1956. He retired from Safeway after many dedicated years as a produce manager and owned and operated his own business, Burke’s Repair Shop in Bentonville.
Surviving is his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Peggy R. Burke; one daughter, Tammy Slawson and husband Glenn of Mystic, Connecticut; one brother, William Burke of Vienna; one sister, Edna Funk of Front Royal; one grandson, Edward Feeney and wife Colleen of North Franklin, Connecticut; one granddaughter, Lindsey Emma-Chavez and husband Rafael of Uncasville, Connecticut; and one great-granddaughter, Emmet Feeney of North Franklin, Connecticut.
Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Nellie Powell.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 24 from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tammy, I am so very sorry. Your family have been part of my life for 67 years. Your dad took me to my one and only prom and sweet heart dance. I love you and your mom very much Thanks for the memories.
