Joyce Henderson Banks

Joyce Henderson Banks went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.

A Home Going service will be held on Saturday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Good Hope Cemetery in Front Royal.

Joyce was born October 28, 1941 in Henderson, North Carolina, daughter of the late John Henderson and Thelma DeNeal Washington.

She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Front Royal.

Surviving are two daughters, Alkia Jones (Fred) of Olney, Maryland and Tara Banks (Kenney) of Front Royal; her most beloved grandchildren, Taryn, Joycelyn, Tarrae, Anthony, Tanai and Terrill; one great-grandson, Imari; one sister, Yolonda “Yodi” Baltimore (Irvin) of Front Royal; one brother, “CH” Washington (Arlys) of Fairfax; her Goddaughter, Kai Brown; her Massachusetts siblings, John Grant and Ramona; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

Flower bearers will be granddaughters and nieces.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 18 from 1-2 p.m. at the church.

    In my neighborhood when growing “up on the hill” Joyce was a very respected adult. She was genuinely concerned about the direction of black youth and her household attracted many because of her care and concern for them! A strong spirit that will transcend time because of her educational political efforts. What a woman!
