Katherine “Katie” Cecilia Lamirande passed away at age 27 on Monday, September 2, 2024.
Born to John and Tracie Lamirande in Lawton, Oklahoma, Katie was the youngest of five children.
After graduating from Towson University in May of 2020 with a degree in Art and Design, she pursued a career in education, finding a home with the staff and students of John Paul the Great Montessori Academy in Front Royal, VA.
Katie had always felt that it was her calling to work with children, and imbued the school with joy, humor, and love. She was a favorite teacher among the students, especially the elementary- schoolers, who learned from her about the everlasting compassion and sacrifice of Christ, and the transcendent beauty and power of art. She was also known throughout the school community for her signature laugh, sense of style, and her appreciation for Diet Coke.
Outside of her career, Katie was an avid traveler. Starting with a mission trip to Belize in high school, she would eventually make her way to Canada, Ireland, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and France in search of adventure. She will be remembered as a shining light and a beautiful soul, now in the embrace of a loving God, and no doubt on the greatest adventure of all.
She is survived by her parents, John and Tracie; her siblings, Daina, Theresa, Johnny, and Jacob; her brother-in-law, Jim; her sister-in-law, Angela; and her nephews and nieces, Ryder, Theodore, Evelyn, and Irene. Katie cherished her family, friends, students, and her dog, Benny.
Funeral services for Katie will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 9 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Lamirande, Jacob Lamirande, James Feehan, Scott Lloyd, Declan Uhlenkott, and Christopher Uhlenkott.
In lieu of flowers, the Lamirande family has requested that anyone desiring to remember Katie with a charitable gift, can do so in the form of a contribution to the Katie Lamirande Memorial Scholarship at https://jpgma.org/donate/. Please indicate “Katie Lamirande Memorial Scholarship” in the comment section. Checks can also be mailed to Katie Lamirande Memorial Scholarship, c/o: JPGMA, PO Box 1474, Front Royal, VA 22630. Oh, I am so sad to know you lost your Katie. She was one of my all time favorite students– just a beautiful soul. I am keeping your family in my prayers and hoping you find great comfort in your memories of her.
John and Tracy and all your family, so so sorry for your loss. I got to know Katie from my wife Pam coming home from school and almost every day telling me something about Katie. I know she was a very special person loved by those who encountered her. She was a special young lady and the world is a bit less sunny today with her passing. You all are in my prayers and I pray not only for the repose of her soul but for the Good Lord’s consoling grace to help you deal with this empty spot in your hearts and your lives. God bless.
As my Irish grandma would have said, Katie was a “pip”……fun, feisty, smart and sweet. She brought ‘energy’ to every class she entered. To Tracie, John. Daina, Theresa, Johnny and Jacob……I’m so sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with your family, and I pray that you are surrounded by God’s comforting love.

I am so sorry to hear about Katie. We may not have been close as we got older, but we stayed connected through social media. I’ll always remember the good times we shared at St. Mary’s. Katie was such a bright and positive light, and it’s hard to believe that she’s gone. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Lamirande family and everyone who loved her. Rest easy, Katie. 🤍

Going to St. Mary of the Mills with Katie 1st-5th, I was saddened by hearing of her passing. Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends to get through this difficult time. She was always a shining light inside and outside of the classroom and she will be missed by many.
To the Lamirande family,
As others have mentioned, no words can be said here to ease the pain of Katie’s passing. I will simply say I really enjoyed talking to Katie when she was guarding at the pool here in Montpelier. She spoke of being a teacher and traveling, which I am pleased to hear she was able to do in her short number of years. Such a beautiful soul.. gone too soon. I will choose to remember her whenever I hear the song “If I Die Young” by the Band Perry.
Blessings Be, The Buehler family.
“If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song
Oh-oh, oh-oh”…
