Kernos Dexter “Pops” Ball Sr., 75 of Linden, Virginia, formerly of Manassas Park, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 at his home.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11 AM at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia with Joseph Nuttall officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Open Door Baptist Church Cemetery in Clear Brook, Virginia. All are invited to join the family at the home of Kernos “KD” Ball Jr. following the inurnment.
Mr. Ball was born on September 19, 1947 in Buchanon County, Virginia to the late Samuel Ball and Nettie Ball NewBerry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shelia Crawford Ball; daughter, Kelly Kerniece “Sissy” Kilburn; brother, Vonald Ball and two sisters, Dovie Crouse and JulaGay Ball. He was a US Army Vietnam veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 10 in Manassas, Virginia and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #829. He retired from Safeway Supermarket after over 36 years as a meat cutter.
Survivors include his two sons, Kernos “KD” Ball Jr. of Front Royal and John Curtis Dejon of Fredericksburg, Virginia; daughter, Tammy Huffman of Linden, Virginia; brother, Sam Ball of Martinsburg, West Virginia; two sisters, Shirley Owens of Culpeper, Virginia and Velva Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Sorry for your loss Kernos was a great guy I worked at Safeway with him and have known him for 45 years he would do anything for you he will be missed
Sorry to read about the loss of Kernos Ball. My sympathies to the family. I worked with him at Safeway many years ago! Great, kind hearted person! He also was great at horse shoes, I remember watching him in a game back in the early 80’s. Great time by all!!

So sorry for the families loss. I knew of Kernos, from being friends with his brother Sam. many of my family and the family of my wife knew Kernos from his time working at the Herndon Safeway. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these trying times. May each and everyone find peace.

My Dear Cousins, I wish there were words that would take away the pain & sorrow. Uncle Kernos was the life of the party. Always telling jokes, never a dull moment. I am so sorry to hear of Kernos passing. We worked together at Safeway for several years. He was a great co-worker and I also considered him a good friend. His smile and humor were contagious. I apologize for not being able to attend his celebration of life, but my thoughts and prayers will be there on Saturday.

So sorry to hear about “Pops”. I met Pops when he was working with my father, also “Pops” at Safeway. I always enjoyed playing darts or horseshoes with him. KD, Jayne and I are so sorry for your loss. He will be missed.
