Lucille P. Wilson

Lucille P. Wilson, 98, of 3100 Shenandoah Shores Road, Front Royal, died on Monday, January 25, 2016 in Calvert County, MD.

Born in Washington, DC in 1917, she was the daughter of Dr. Robert M. Putnam and Elizabeth Schafer(eventually also from Front Royal).

Raised until age 16 in Richmond, Lucille moved with her family to Baltimore in 1933. There she married John J. (Jack) Wilson, and raised three sons.

Always active in volunteer and social activities during WWII and for decades after, Lucy and Jack provided a home away from home for many Hawaiian and foreign students.

Lucy moved to Bel Air, MD in 1963, where her husband soon bought an existing furniture business. In Bel Air, Lucy had her own ceramic business for a few years, then helped her husband in the furniture store.

In 1980, Lucy and Jack retired to their summer home in Shenandoah Shores that Jack had built in 1960 on property they had bought in 1958.

They joined Front royal Presbyterian Church in 1980, where Lucy taught Sunday School for decades, not stopping until fall 2015. She was also a member of the bell choir there, and was active in many other church activities.

Widowed in 1984, Lucy volunteered at the Warren County Heritage Society on Chester Street, was active in the Browntown Social club, and was a member of the Clarissa Massey Doll Club of Virginia, which is affiliated with the United Federation of Doll Clubs.

She shorty resided at Commonwealth Assisted Care Facility in Front Royal before moving into a hospice near her son’s home in Maryland.

Lucille is survived by three sons, John, Craig, and Michael, and their wives Carol, Kate, and Amy; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Family will received visitors at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Front Royal, on Monday, February 1, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Interment will be in Panorama Memorial Gardens for family members and selected friends only.

A Memorial Service will be held at Front Royal Presbyterian Church at a date to be determined.
