Lyle Jackson Foster, Sr., age 98, of Front Royal, VA, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017.

Mr. Foster was born December 9, 1918 in Flint Hill, VA, son of the late Jesse James Foster and Annie Roberta Newcomer Foster. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and achieved the rank of Seaman, First Class. Mr. Foster retired as a supervisor in the spinning department at Avtex in Front Royal.

Lyle enjoyed 34 years of retirement, hiking the trails of Shenandoah National Park and playing tennis. He skied for the first time at age 56 on the Stubai Glacier in Austria.

Surviving are one son Lyle Jackson “Jack” Foster, Jr. and wife Louise “Scottie” Foster ; a daughter ,Peggy Foster Etheridge; six grandchildren Jackson Scott Foster, Cynthia Aleshire Green, Gregory R. Etheridge, Jr., Dawn Marie Etheridge, Jesse Benjamin Foster, and John Jackson Foster; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Evelyn Kuhnert Foster, his second wife Bess Ann Gochenour Foster; and his son James Edward “Jim” Foster.

Services will be private.
