Manuel Phillip Souza, III, 52, Of Front Royal, VA, died on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 6, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Front Royal conducted by Rev. Jerome Fasano. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Souza was born April 22, 1964 in Gloucester, MA, son of Jean Goldsworthy Souza of Florida and the late David Souza.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a land surveyor. Mr. Souza was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. He loved his family and friends, his Portuguese and Catholic Heritages, and was especially fond of his hometown of Gloucester, MA.
Mr. Souza loved to cook, debate, and play war games and sail around the Chesapeake Bay. He was passionate about the wrestling team at Warren County High School and was an avid Washington Redskins fan. He was blessed to journey to his family’s native land in Portugal and the Azores. In Portugal, he assisted in a mission to promote life from conception to natural death. He was known for his quick mind, great humor and excellent cooking.
Surviving along with his mother are his wife Tamara Souza of Front Royal; three children Joseph Souza, Isabella Souza and Raphael Souza all of Front Royal; two sisters Jean Carroll and husband James of Woodbridge, VA and , Pamela Souza and fiancé Stephen Raymond of Gloucester; two brothers David Souza and Christopher Souza and fiancée Jennifer Scala all of Gloucester; mother and father in-law John and Sandi Rinky; sisters-in-law Pilar Rinky and Yvette Babic; nephews Matthew Smith, Nicholas and Austin Carroll, Claudio and Mateo Babic, Tyler Raymond, Jacob and Kayden Souza, and Devin Mason; nieces Brianna Carroll, Alexis Raymond and Layla Souza; and many beloved cousins.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 5, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal, VA.
